Death and respawn

Where you wake up after a death, the three respawn buttons, getting your gear back with /getmystuff, and the perks that make dying cheaper.

A death here does not send you back to the beach. You wake up near where you fell, your body is easy to find, and a few perks bring your gear back on their own.

The death screen

Death screen buttons: Respawn in Town, Respawn Here, Respawn
Respawn in Town (every 30 minutes), Respawn Here (a perk, once a day) and the normal random respawn.
ButtonWhere you wake upWho has it
RespawnOn land 200 to 400 m from where you died, away from monuments, other players' bases and raid zones (up to 1 km out if nothing fits)Everyone
Respawn in TownIn the Town, behind its guardsEveryone, once every 30 minutes
Respawn HereRight where you diedThe Respawn Here perk, once a day (resets at midnight)
Your bags and bedsAt the bag or bed, as in normal RustEveryone

Respawn Here does not work if you died in water, inside someone else's base or in a raid zone. The button says why.

What you wake up with

Your first spawn of the wipe comes with the starter kit, once per wipe. After that you respawn the vanilla way, with a rock and a torch, unless Get My Stuff AUTO puts your gear back on.

Getting your gear back

  • /getmystuff lists your corpses and loot bags with their distance and direction. Free for everyone.
  • /getmystuff buy moves everything on your corpses and loot bags into one bag at your feet. It costs 666 RP, found or not, and needs the Get My Stuff perk.

The item in your hands goes into your corpse with the rest instead of dropping on the ground. A corpse or bag that lands inside the terrain or falls out of the world is lifted back to the surface, so its items are never deleted and /getmystuff still finds them.

Your backpack

Your backpack drops when you die. The Keep Backpack perk keeps it on you, except in raids.

Perks that help

All of them are in the /p skill trees.

Dying infected

An infected death skips Get My Stuff AUTO, and your body rises as the Risen next to your corpse. Bring a friend or a gun to get your gear back. See Infection and cures.
